So what is an animal welfare group doing with yet another event inviting guardians to pay P500 to entitle them & their dogs to attend a Hawaiian-themed party co-presented by Eastwood City?
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is a local-based animal welfare group completely run by Filipino volunteers.
Aside from its work of promoting respect for all animals and freeing them from any form of cruelty and suffering, the organization runs an animal shelter called the PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center or PARC (located in Aurora Blvd., Katipunan Valley, Loyola Heights, QC) which provides refuge to more than 30 dogs and 80 cats with the aim of rehabilitating and re-homing them to good families.
The unique Pet Luau boasted of a delicious spread for the guardians catered by Seafood Island and Big Kahuna while the canines drooled over the unique pet buffet which featured mouth-watering Pedigree and Cesar products as well as cocktails specially prepared for canines.

PAWS celebrity volunteers JM Rodriguez & Patricia Hizon hosted the main program where a fun Guardian & Pet Limbo Rock competition was played. Aliya Parcs serenaded the audience with a special number while TV host Pia Guanio received the “Order of the Platinum Paw” Award for her work in supporting PAWS and speaking up on television regarding important animal welfare issues.
- Emil – staying at the shelter for the past 2 years, many dogs have come & gone but Emil is still waiting for a family to fall in love with him. Rescued from the dog meat trade, he was brought to the PAWS shelter for rehabilitation. Despite having gone through a horrible ordeal of being crammed into small cages along with 100 other dogs, Emil is still sweet & friendly and eagerly awaiting to find his forever home.
- Harry – a pup abandoned at the shelter because he had a “club foot” defect. Harry was recently operated on by Dr. Nielsen Donato of Vets in Practice and is now happily walking straight and waiting for a new family to take him home
- Becky – grew up as an indoor dog and first showed signs of not knowing how to walk on a leash when she came to the shelter. Now, she is learning to walk properly and is instantly everyone’s friend when she is introduced to people.
- Chubby – was thin, dirty and looked forlorn when he first came to the shelter. With a lot of TLC from the PAWS shelter staff and volunteers, Chubby was able to find his newfound confidence and would make an ideal ‘exercise’ dog for an active, athletic family.
The Chillin’ PET LUAU was mounted by Eastwood City and PAWS in cooperation with Pedigree, Cesar, Seafood Island, Big Kahuna Bar & Grill and the Philippine Star Pet Life Section together with Frontline Plus, Eastwood Cinemas, Starbucks Coffee, Samson & Mom, Carlo Rossi and Yo Card.
