Unson remembers having read somewhere that those who have dogs actually are healthier and more active because caring owners find themselves ‘forced’ to take their dogs out for walks and are less likely to miss these walks for the sake of their beloved pets.
She immediately got in touch with PAWS to broach the idea of the Six-Legged Walkathon as a fundraiser for the PAWS animal shelter. “We love it, “ says Rich Ilustre, Events and Fundraising Director for PAWS.
The Six-Legged walkathon was attended by dozens of dog owners and their pets at the SM Mall of Asia as the kick-off of PAWS’ celebration of World Animal Day in the Philippines. World Animal Day falls on October 4th, the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, the Catholic patron saint of animals and the environment. WAD started in Florence, Italy in 1931 at a convention of ecologists and is a celebration of the importance that animals play in human’s lives.
The Sassa Six-Legged Walkathon was made possible by Sassa Activewear, Animal House Group of Clinics, and SM Mall of Asia.
