Volunteers from the Earth Island Institute, Philippine Animal Welfare Society(PAWS), and Marin Wildlife Watch of the Philippines went to Angel of the Sea-The Dolphin and Sea Lion show in Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City, Philippines to register their objection against the said show.

Indofil Sea Wonders Co. Ltd is the one responsible for the importation and transport of the animals into the country which comes from Indonesia. The dolphins and sea lions are made to perform five times each day in a small shallow pool which possibly contains chlorinated water which is harmful to the animals. Chlorinated water is harmful because it might cause blindness to these animals and the frequency of the performances is also stressful for the animals.

Ms. Trixie Concepcion, Regional Director of Earth Island Institute also disputed the claims of the show that it is educational with its “Save the Ocean, Save Marin Life” slogan and logo. She explained that the mere fact that the dolphins and sea lions are held captive for the show defies the said slogan.

Activists also gave out fliers about dolphin cruelty to those who watched the shows and also discouraged other people from watching the show itself which would last till Jan 2, 2011.
