Maya
Maya was rescued in July, 2009 on the streets of Xavierville in Quezon City.
As a puppy, she went through a lot. Her left hind leg was cut off
and her remaining good hind leg's middle toe was missing, making it harder for her
to walk.
To top it all, she had severe, itchy, painful mange that had her scratching
her body to the point of baldness and soreness.
Whoever neglected her and was cruel to her clearly left a mark on Maya's psyche.
She would
not let anyone touch, or even go near her. She would tremble in fear and snap, fearing for
her young life.
But PAWS did not give up on her.
Volunteers would sit in front of her kennel and talk to
her, throw some treats in, reassure her for hours, until she realized no one was going to
hurt her.
We all knew she was on her way to recovery when, on an exeptionally sunny November
day, she walked up to a volunteer and nudged the hand that held her favorite liver treats.
She was immediately given a bath and hours-long cuddles.
Soon, Maya flourished. Her fur grew thicker, and she became happier as the days go by.
On March 20, 2010, Lea and Pola Apilado took her home and officially became her mommies.
Everyday, PAWS rescues and rehabilitates dogs like Maya until they are ready to be put up for adoption.
Our life-saving work needs your support. Please donate. It will go a long way in helping homeless dogs and cats hoping for a second chance at a good life.
